Although the shape and size of different biomes vary between different worlds, the actual biome features remains the same across all vanilla Minecraft worlds. There is nothing new that makes exploring different biomes interesting. But not anymore!

The Cascades mod introduces a new and improved terrain generation system into the game.

With this mod installed, worlds now generate with some new terrain features that are visually aesthetic, while also improving some issues with the vanilla terrain. Let us take a look at some of the new features and tweaks.

You will notice more cliffs and overhangs generating in your world. Just think about it - How many times have you come across an overhang that leads straight down into an open body of water? The chances of something like this generating in the vanilla game is very low.

Imagine strolling through some plains, and slowly you see a large structure fading in from the distance. As you move closer, the fog fades, revealing super-tall mountains that can be described as nothing less than "majestic". The vanilla method of generating mountains often avoid steep heights, which this mod makes possible.

You will also come across different seasonal tree variants as you traverse through your world. These are detailing elements that will add variety to your world.

Underground rivers and water pockets are also a common feature with the new terrain generation. You will also notice that the transition between land and water alongside beach-sides and river banks are now a lot more smooth and gradual.

Another interesting change brought by the new terrain generation is the sheer size of continents and oceans. While the size of individual biomes are very much comparable to the vanilla game, entire landmasses are now a lot larger than they used to be. Likewise, oceans also span across hundreds, if not thousands, of blocks.
