New and structured progression mechanics that will make the survival experience a lot more immersive and challenging.

Genesis is a Minecraft mod for players who think vanilla progression is too straightforward. Instead of adding another dimension or pile of ores, it rebuilds the path from spawn to the Ender Dragon using a custom Age system that locks blocks, items, and even dimensions behind real goals. It's a Fabric mod for Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.6–1.21.10, works in singleplayer and multiplayer, and has racked up thousands of downloads on Modrinth. If you want iron armor or a furnace to actually feel earned, Genesis delivers.

Genesis also turns "beating the game" into an actual world tour. Before reaching The End, you must visit the Nether, explore the Pale Garden, complete an Ocean Monument, dive into an Ancient City, and defeat the Wither. Each stop unlocks a piece of the puzzle, from the Nether dimension itself to a trident or enchanted golden apples. Instead of beelining for a stronghold, you're pushed to engage with the structures Mojang built but most players skip.

This progression sticks because it's enforced through custom advancements, not just suggestions. Genesis introduces Ages, a new advancement type that locks content like iron armor, diamond tools, and furnaces until you meet specific requirements, such as surviving a Trial Spawner in copper armor. Some Ages must be completed in order while others are optional, shown by the advancement frame in-game. Despite the friction, Genesis stays beginner-friendly: an in-game guide and Ages screen show exactly what's locked and how to unlock it, so you never need an outside wiki.

Genesis also reworks healing with a new status effect called Solace. With natural regeneration off by default in new worlds, taking damage matters again, and healing comes from eating nourishing food near a lit campfire while injured. Doing so grants Solace, which gradually restores health over time instead of instantly. It only sticks around under the right conditions, though: it disappears if you leave the campfire, take more damage, or heal to full.
Between Age-gated gear, the forced tour of the Nether, Pale Garden, Ocean Monument, and Ancient City, and tweaks like Solace, Genesis makes a familiar game feel new without piling on bloat. It rewards players who explore rather than rush, while its built-in guide keeps things approachable. If you want your next playthrough to feel like a journey instead of a speedrun, Genesis is available now on Modrinth.
