AstraLex Shaders

Experience beautiful sky visuals like never before. Volumetric light, clouds, fog and many other effects.

Amongst the large collection of shader packs available for Minecraft, AstraLex falls into a collection of high-quality shaders that elevates the game visuals to extreme limits. Let us a take a look at some of the features of this amazing shader pack.

Volumetric Lighting

Volumetric Lighting

Three-dimensional volumetric lighting

The mod utilizes a shader light effect called volumetry. Volumetry is a shader effect that makes light behave in a three-dimensional manner. In the images above, it can be seen how the light reacts with the environment in a realistic manner.

Sky Detail

Sky Detail

Volumetric clouds and birds

This pack introduced sky elements like no other shader pack does. The first feature is the volumetric clouds. Just like with light, the clouds too behave in a three-dimensional manner that makes them appear fluffy and realistic. Additionally, you can also find birds flapping their wings in the sky.

Night Sky

Night Sky

Stars, auroras and moon

The sky detailing is not limited to just the day-time sky. The real beauty of the sky is noticeable at night-time, when the sky is filled with auroras, stars, constellations, and a large, well-detailed moon. All these effects make the night-sky a truly unique sight.

Rain / Colored Fog

Rain / Colored Fog

Rain induced fog effect

When it rains, a fog effect tends to appear. This effect is especially noticeable in densely populated areas like forests. In the image above, the difference in the color of fog in a birch forest and mangrove swamp is well noticeable. This indicates that the color of the fog depends on the biome.

Puddles / Wet Blocks

Puddles / Wet Blocks

Raindrops create puddles and wet blocks

When rain drops fall onto a water surface, you can notice puddles forming on the water surface. This effect is only noticeable when you take a closer look. The level of attention put in by the developer is well noticeable here. Rain also tends to make exposed blocks wet. The wetness dries out slowly once it stops raining.

Water Effects

Water Effects

Realistic water visuals

The pack gives water a realistic appearance. While many shader packs tend to make water more detailed by making them more transparent and adding surface waves, this pack does so by making the water appear dark with a subtle wave effect.

Distance Blur / Depth of Field

Distance Blur / Depth of Field

Highly configurable blur effects

The pack also includes a collection of different camera effects like motion blur, depth of field and distance blue. Whether it be to capture stunning screenshots, or for enjoying an immersive survival experience, you can fine tune these effects to your liking in the shader settings.

RGB Block Highlight

RGB Block Highlight

Hitbox around pointed blocks appear RGB

A good number of miscellaneous features are introduced by this pack. All of these can be enabled/disabled and configured in the shader pack settings. The RGB effect added to the block hitbox when a player points at the blocks is one among these features.

A lot of resource packs go well with AstraLex. But from our testing, the somewhat cartoony textures of the Spectral texture pack appear to well complement the crisp and vibrant visuals of this shader pack.

The Nether

Brighter light sources

When it comes to the Nether, you will notice that the light sources like glow stone and lava appear to be very bright, with a bloom effect. Meanwhile, dark areas with no lighting appear darker than in vanilla.

The End

The End

Sky lightning and other effects

In the End dimension, the first thing you will notice is the sky. The purple-tinted sky with the occasional lightning effect truly adds to the intensity of the dragon fight. Along with the fog, these effects make End exploration a truly unique experience.
