Weather

Of any shader, Photon’s weather and cloud system is the most advanced and has the most variety. The system is random, where each day a new weather preset is selected; which changes the cloud formations and lighting, for example a Minecraft day can be sunnier and clearer, or more overcast, and drearier. This makes each and every day different, and special in its own way, a feature no other shader has implemented yet. 

Clouds

The clouds in this shader are also counted among the best, in any shader yet made. 3 levels of clouds on top of each other make the sky have volume, and something you stop to look at when you’re playing with Photon. They are the main thing that make this shader so special, and so unique. 

Lighting and fog

The lighting and the volumetric fog here are nothing really special, but still way up at the top in terms of visuals. The lighting, including togglable coloured lighting, I would compare to Complementaries implementation in terms of visuals, and the fog I would compare to Bliss’s volumetric fog. A recent addition are crepuscular rays, which are something special, adding god rays that shine down through the clouds, even at midday. 

TAAU & Customisation

The addition of TAAU (Temporal anti aliasing with upscaling) allows for lower end systems to render the game at lower resolutions and then to upscale it to fit the monitor resolution. This makes Photon to be among the best performing mid-range shaders there are.

Along with tons, and I mean tons of settings to tweak the daily weather system, water waves and caustics, day and night lighting, and so much more, this also makes the shader super taylorable to the end user, for example keeping some great features while disabling others for a better frame rate.
