RenderScale Mod

The resolution at which you are playing the game greatly impacts your game performance. The vanilla game provides an option to scale down the game resolution, but this also scales down all of the HUD elements and the game window itself, making it so that the game window only appears at a small part of your screen.

The RenderScale mod is here with a solution. This mod allows you to change the game resolution separately from the HUD elements and window size. By accessing the mod settings, you will be able to see an option called Scale Factor.

The Scale Factor value is set to 1 by default. A factor of 1 means your game is running at the same resolution as your monitor. Set this value to 0.5 and the game will now run at 0.5 times the monitor resolution. This results in a decent performance improvement.

The image above shows a comparison between a scale factor of 1.0 and 0.75. The difference is not very noticeable at the first glance, but upon closer inspection, you will find the 0.75 scaled image to appear slightly blurred. But this decrease in resolution actually results in an increase in game performance, noticeable by an increase in frame rate.

The difference between a scale factor of 0.5 and 0.25 is very much noticeable at a glance. Note that setting the value to 0 might crash your game. Setting the value to anything above 1 is also not recommended, as the visual quality is not improved, while adversely affecting the game performance.

You can also tweak the value to any number between 0 and 1. Play around with different values until you find a perfect combination between visual quality and game performance.
