Master Aether magic, conquer guarded shrines, and take spellcasting to the skies.

Aether Spellbooks combines The Aether’s floating-island adventures with the magic system from Iron’s Spells ’n Spellbooks. This guide covers the supplied 1.1.0 release for Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge, from collecting your first scroll to upgrading dungeon equipment into mage gear.

Build an upright Glowstone frame measuring at least 4 blocks wide and 5 blocks tall, leaving a 2 × 3 opening. Place water inside to activate it, then step through into the Aether. The portal and dimension belong to The Aether; this addon adds spells, shrines and equipment within that progression.

A scroll contains one spell at a particular level. Using it directly consumes it for a single cast; inscribing it into a spellbook lets you cast repeatedly using regenerating mana, with a cooldown between uses. By default, the addon’s spells are restricted to Aether loot rather than generic Iron’s Spells loot.

Use an Inscription Table, a workstation from Iron’s Spells, to put spells into books. Craft it using the pictured arrangement: a Book at the top right, three wooden slabs across the middle, and wooden fences at the bottom left and right.

Open the Inscription Table and place your spellbook in its book input.
Place a spell scroll in the scroll input, then select an available spell slot to inscribe it.
Retrieve the book and equip it in your spellbook accessory slot.
Select the stored spell and use your casting control (set in keybind settings); hold the keybind through the animation for spells that need charging.
Check Options → Controls → Key Binds for your spell-selection, casting and imbued-weapon controls. The screenshots use a customized casting key, so follow your own bindings. A staff provides bonuses and casting equipment; obtaining one does not automatically teach you spells.

Thunderhead in Action
Aercloud Step: Creates a temporary cloud platform beneath you, with higher levels adding a bouncy centre, Slow Falling and a golden rim. (Evocation)
Stonebreaker Shard: Launches holystone shards that slow enemies, deal bonus damage to Aether dungeon creatures and can damage the Slider. (Nature)
Zephyr Blast: Fires a wind projectile that bursts and knocks nearby enemies away. (Evocation)
Thunder Crystal: Launches homing electrical crystals that chain to additional targets at higher levels. (Lightning)
Summon Moa: Summons a temporary, saddled spectral Moa and automatically mounts you for travel and mid-air jumps. (Evocation)

Summon Moa and Aercloud Step
Valkyrie Lunge: Dashes through and brands enemies, allowing follow-up dashes with bonus damage and a final shockwave. (Holy)
Cloud Sentinels: Summons two shoulder clouds that shoot toward your aim and fire an extra volley when you cast another spell. (Evocation)
Aether Whirlwind: Creates a roaming whirlwind that pursues nearby enemies and pulls them upward. (Nature)
Radiant Javelin: Throws a piercing golden spear that creates a light column, damaging enemies and healing you and your allies. (Holy)
Thunderhead: Summons a drifting storm cloud that strikes enemies with chaining lightning and deals 50% extra damage to wet targets. (Lightning)

Stonebreaker Shard and Valkyri
Aerwhale Song: Calls a spectral aerwhale whose song damages and lifts enemies while granting allies Slow Falling and Jump Boost. (Nature)
Frostbound Crystal: Fires Aether ice crystals that weaken enemies and can freeze the Sun Spirit. (Ice)
Summon Fire Minion: Summons temporary allies that attack enemies and set them ablaze. (Fire)
Solar Flare: Creates a miniature sun above you that automatically fires homing bolts at nearby enemies. (Fire)
Gravitite Surge: Lifts nearby enemies before slamming them down. (Ender)
Icestone Meteor: Drops an icy boulder that chills and knocks back enemies while freezing nearby water. (Ice)
Spell levels determine a scroll’s strength and sometimes unlock additional effects; inscribing preserves its level, and repeated casting does not level it up. Summon Moa I/II/III provides 3/4/8 mid-air jumps, while Aercloud Step gains a blue centre at level 3, Slow Falling at level 4 and a golden rim at level 5. Higher levels usually cost more mana; maximum levels vary from 3 to 10, depending on the spell.

The three new books are loot rewards and have no crafting recipes in this version. Any school’s spells can be stored in any of them; the listed schools simply receive extra power while that book is equipped.
Slider’s Codex: Holds 8 spells and grants +100 mana, +10% Nature spell power and +0.2 knockback resistance while equipped; found in Bronze Dungeon reward chests with a 30% chance.
Valkyrie Grimoire: Holds 10 spells and grants +150 mana, +10% Holy spell power and +10% Lightning spell power while equipped; found in Silver Dungeon reward chests with a 25% chance, or as rare Valkyrie Sanctum loot.
Solar Codex: Holds 12 spells and grants +200 mana, +15% Fire spell power, +10% Ice spell power and +5% cooldown reduction while equipped; found in Gold Dungeon reward chests with a 30% chance, or as rare Solar Altar loot.
The Slider, Valkyrie Queen and Sun Spirit are bosses from The Aether, not new addon bosses. Defeat the corresponding dungeon boss and use its key to access the reward chest; repeat dungeons if the randomized reward does not include the book. You can use a regular Iron’s Spells spellbook before obtaining these.
Both shrine types generate on suitable islands in Skyroot Meadow, Grove, Woodland and Forest biomes. Explore newly generated chunks when adding the mod to an existing world.

The Valkyrie Sanctum is a columned shrine with a reward chest. Its guards spawn with the structure and persist there; additional random surface spawning is disabled by default.

Two Valkyrie Sorceresses, each with 60 HP (30 hearts), protect the shrine. They combine Holy and Lightning attacks with movement, control, healing and defensive spells, and drop Victory Medals useful for challenging The Aether’s Valkyrie Queen.
Chest loot includes scrolls, ink, runes, Arcane Essence and Aether materials, with rare possibilities including a Valkyrie Grimoire, Valkyrie Scepter, Ambrosium Ring, Valkyrie Mantle or upgrade template. Sorceresses also provide materials and chances for scrolls, ink, runes and templates; rare chest items are not guaranteed.

The Solar Altar is a fiery shrine with a raised platform and a large glowing centrepiece. Like the Sanctum, it introduces a guarded loot location on the Aether’s islands.

Two Solar Acolytes, each with 50 HP (25 hearts), defend it using fire projectiles, area attacks, movement spells, Solar Flare and summoned fire minions. Its chest can contain scrolls, rare/epic ink, runes and materials, with rare possibilities including the Solar Codex, Solar Scepter, Zanite Focus Pendant, Gravitite Casting Gloves or upgrade template. Acolytes drop Golden Amber, Ambrosium and Arcane Essence, with chances for scrolls, Fire Runes and templates.

Find an Arcane Aether Upgrade smithing template in shrine chests, Silver/Gold dungeon rewards or rare spellcaster drops. Keep one to duplicate: in a Crafting Table, put the template at the top centre, Enchanted Gravitite in the middle, and seven Arcane Essence in the remaining spaces to produce two templates.

The Phoenix Mage set adds mana and Fire bonuses. Wearing all four pieces grants fire/lava immunity, faster lava swimming and Rebirth: surviving a fatal blow restores 40% health and releases fiery knockback, with a five-minute cooldown. Unlike original Phoenix armor, it does not become obsidian in water.

Obtain original Phoenix armor from The Aether’s Gold Dungeon rewards, then upgrade each helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots using one template + the original piece + one Fire Rune. Repeat for all four pieces and equip the complete set to receive its set abilities.

The Valkyrie Mage set adds mana and Holy/Lightning bonuses. Its full set grants brief flight when holding jump in mid-air, prevents fall damage and provides 15% faster casting while airborne, alongside its animated wings and cape.

Obtain original Valkyrie armor from Silver Dungeon rewards: collect 10 Victory Medals, challenge the Valkyrie Queen, defeat her and unlock the treasure chest with her Silver Key. Upgrade each armor piece using one template + the original piece + one Holy Rune; randomized dungeon rewards may require several runs to collect the original set.

Stormcaller Spellblade: Upgrade a Lightning Sword using an Arcane Aether Upgrade template and Lightning Rune; charged hits call lightning, and its built-in spell is Thunder Crystal IV.
Sunfire Spellblade: Upgrade a Flaming Sword using an Arcane Aether Upgrade template and Fire Rune; charged hits ignite enemies, and its built-in spell is Solar Flare II.

Sanguine Spellblade: Upgrade a Vampire Blade using an Arcane Aether Upgrade template and Blood Rune; charged hits heal you, and its built-in spell is Blood Slash IV.
Hallowed Spellblade: Upgrade a Holy Sword using an Arcane Aether Upgrade template and Holy Rune; deals bonus damage to undead, and its built-in spell is Valkyrie Lunge IV.
Find the original swords through The Aether’s dungeon rewards, then smith them with an upgrade template and the matching rune. Each new blade grants +50 mana and +10% matching-school power while held. Let the attack indicator refill for charged melee abilities, and use your configured imbued-weapon casting control to activate the built-in spell.

Zanite Staff: Craft with 2 Zanite Gemstones, 2 Skyroot Sticks and 1 Arcane Essence in the pictured pattern, or find it as possible Bronze Dungeon chest loot; grants +10% spell power and +15% mana regeneration while held in your main hand.
Aercloud Staff: Upgrade an Aether Cloud Staff using an Arcane Aether Upgrade template and Evocation Rune; grants +15% Evocation power, +10% cast-time reduction and +5% spell power while held in your main hand, with sneak + use summoning or dismissing cloud minions and swinging making them shoot.
Gravitite Staff: Craft with 1 Zanite Staff, 2 Enchanted Gravitite, 1 Ender Rune and 1 Skyroot Stick in the pictured pattern; grants +15% Ender power, +10% cooldown reduction and +5% spell power while held in your main hand, and charged melee hits launch grounded enemies into the air.

The Valkyrie Scepter comes from Silver Dungeon rewards or rare Sanctum loot and grants +15% Holy, +10% Lightning and +5% general spell power. The Solar Scepter comes from Gold Dungeon rewards or rare Altar loot and grants +15% Fire power, +10% cast-time reduction and +10% general spell power. Both are loot equipment rather than craftable staves in this version.

All four accessories below are added by Aether Spellbooks, using base accessories from The Aether and Arcane Essence from Iron’s Spells. Their recipes are shapeless, so ingredient positions do not matter.
Ambrosium Ring: Craft with 1 Zanite Ring, 4 Ambrosium Shards and 1 Arcane Essence; grants +15% mana regeneration while equipped.
Zanite Focus Pendant: Craft with 1 Zanite Pendant, 2 Zanite Gemstones and 2 Arcane Essence; its spell-power bonus rises from +5% toward +20% as casting wears it down, and it needs repairing with Zanite Gemstones when depleted.
Gravitite Casting Gloves: Craft with 1 Gravitite Gloves, 1 Enchanted Gravitite and 2 Arcane Essence; grants +10% cast-time reduction and +8% Ender spell power while equipped.
Valkyrie Mantle: Craft with 1 Valkyrie Cape, 1 Golden Feather and 2 Arcane Essence; grants +50 mana, +10% Holy spell power and half fall damage while equipped.
Open the accessory interface and equip each item in its matching ring, pendant, gloves or cape slot. Carrying an accessory in your inventory does not activate its bonuses. The pendant becomes stronger as it wears, but loses its effect when depleted, so check its tooltip and repair it when necessary.
Aether Spellbooks gives your Aether adventures a magical progression, from collecting scrolls and filling your first spellbook to exploring guarded shrines and upgrading dungeon equipment. Choose gear that supports your favourite spell schools, experiment with different abilities, and build a loadout for both combat and travelling between the floating islands.
