Iteration RP Shaders

The IterationRP shader pack is the successor to the popular IterationT pack. The pack introduces better lighting effects, reflection and now comes with PBR texture support. Let us take a look at some of the notable features of this pack in detail.

Lighting

The lighting effects introduces by this pack are remarkably good. The most notable feature is how light refracts through colored glass blocks. As seen in the image below, the light from the torch picks up the color of the glass blocks/panes when it passes through them. Features like this show how much realism the creator has intended to bring.

When light enters a dark room through small gaps, the path and light rays become visible. When capturing indoor scenes, effects like this adds realism to the visuals. While other shader packs simply increases the light level of the interior, this pack showcases sharp shadows around block edges, adding to the realism.

Clouds

Most high end shader packs introduce volumetric clouds into the game, and this pack is no different. Where this pack stands unique, is how clouds react to change in weather. A clear weather shows bright skies with realistic volumetric clouds. But when it starts to rain, the volumetry of the clouds can be seen increasing. The clouds gradually spread to cover the entire sky as it rains.

The image above shows how the sky looks like on a regular sunny day. But if you take a look at the image below, you can see how the clouds gradually gain volumetry as the intensity of the rain increases. The density of the clouds increase until the entire sky is covered and the world dims.

PBR Support

Another feature of the pack is support for PBR textures. These are 2D texture who behave differently based on the angle in which light falls on them. The textures are altered in such a way that shadows appear on a pixel level. The images given below were captures using the AVPBR Retextured texture pack, along with this shader pack.

Realistic Water

Adding realism to water is something that most shader packs try to achieve and this pack is no different. The unique detail, however, is how the reflections are formed on the water surface. In the image below, the water can be seen to reflect the light from the torch above. The waves on the water surface distort the reflection in a realistic manner.

The Nether

When it comes to the Nether, there is not much features that are unique to the dimension. The Nether is a dimension with varying lighting - dark corners and bright areas lit by lava and light emitting blocks. This, when combined with the shader effects introduces by the pack, give the Nether a beautiful appearance.

The End

Unlike with the Nether, this pack has overhauled the visuals of the End dimension. The End sky now has a supermassive blackhole that spans across the entire End sky.

Darker areas now appear a lot darker, while the lighted areas are well lit. The majestic End sky paves way for a dragon fight detailed with immersive visuals.

Performance

All of the features listed above all point at one expected fact - this is a high-end shader pack. But the unexpected part is that the pack gives decent game performance, even on a mid-end system.

On performance testing conducted on a mid-end laptop with a AMD Ryzen 5000 series chipset and a AMD Radeon RX6500M GUP, that shader pack provided a solid 30+ FPS.

Players with low-end systems have the option to configure the shader pack settings to disable or reduce the quality of certain effects to improve game performance.
