Sundial Lite is the free version of a paid shader pack called Sundial. This pack performs exceptionally beautiful graphics for a shader pack that claims to be made for performing well on low end systems. Let us take a look at the visual aesthetic elements introduces by this shader pack.

Volumetric Lighting

Volumetric Lighting

Realistic light effects

The pack introduces volumetric lighting, a shader effect that is mostly found in shaders designed to perform on mid-end to high-end systems. This is a realistic effect that makes light react with the environment in a three-dimensional manner. Having this effect perform well on a low-end system is an impressive accomplishment.

Volumetric Clouds

Volumetric Clouds

Clouds have volume!

Just like with lighting, the shader pack once again impresses us by adding volumetry to clouds. The clouds added by this pack looks fluffy and realistic. They complement the volumetric light effects really well.

Realistic Water

Realistic Water

Mirror like ice and realistic water

The water surfaces react to light in a very realistic manner. The reflections deflect over the distorted water surface in a very realistic manner. On the other hand, ice now reflects the environment in an almost mirror-like manner, an effect not seen much in shaders, especially not on low-end ones.

The pack is designed to perform well on low-end systems. If the pack works well for you, consider using it alongside a realistic texture pack like Patrix. The above screenshot and the ones below are taken using the Patrix 32x texture pack.

Elevate the realism!

The volumetric lighting react well with the defined edges and surface features of the textured added by the Patrix texture pack. If you are aiming to achieve true realism with a shader pack, Patrix is a must-have.

The Nether

Jumping into the Nether, you will immediately notice a thick fog covering the entirety of the dimension. While this fog may partially obstruct your vision, you will still be able to make out far away features. When it comes to lighting, you will notice that light sources like lava and glowstone largely predominates scenes with their highly emissive lighting. This makes the darker areas look darker.

The End

When it comes to the End dimension, you will notice a distant fog that fades out far away features. The sky has a purple tint and there are stars in the sky.

The distant fog and the purple skies with stars gives the End a truly unique appearance. Features like End cities slowly fade into your periphery as you get closer, providing a more intense experience experience than vanilla, where structures appear to just pop-in as they are loaded.
